Off to Stillwater, Oklahoma! Why, you ask? To spend Thanksgiving with my friend Jason. We met at The Corner Bar in Lima, Peru (the only place to watch American sports in Lima) while watching the SuperBowl almost three years ago and have stayed in touch ever since. He’s been down to Austin a bunch of times since I’ve been here, but I have yet to make it up there (because Austin is much cooler). This is us enjoying some Cuzqueña while watching the Gators win the 2007 NCAA basketball championship. Happy Thanksgiving!

I heard this in the background while sitting at my desk, winding down from work. In context, the quote includes a few allusions to Moby Dick that are lost on me. This portion is the pertinent part to me.

I’ve often had the same thought: that things would be nicer if my standards were automatically lowered by virtue of a disability. That line of thought is similar to “I wish I was a cat. Then all day I would either be eating or sleeping.”

Certainly it would be nice, but ultimately unfulfilling. (Except that, maybe, if you were a cat, you wouldn’t care about fulfillment in the way that we typically mean it.) I’m not exactly sure what I mean by “unfulfilling.”
